Number cards

Plans Free, Pro

The four cards under the controls show your headline numbers for the date range you chose: Clicks, Impressions, CTR and Avg. position. Under each big number you see how it changed against the comparison and what the comparison value was, for example “18.6% vs 37.5k”.

Choose what the chart draws. On the Overview tab each card is also a switch. A selected card is drawn on the chart; click a card to add or remove its metric. You always keep at least one: if you try to switch off the last one, the card gives a short shake and nothing changes. Your choice is kept in the page address. On the Queries, Pages and Countries & devices tabs the cards are readouts only.

Reading the change

  • Clicks and impressions: the percent change. If the comparison had none, it says “New”.
  • CTR: the change in percentage points. CTR from 2.96% to 3.10% is up 0.14 points.
  • Average position: the number of places gained or lost. Lower is better, so a move from 13.2 to 13.1 shows a green down arrow: the number went down, and that is an improvement.
  • Green means better, red means worse, grey means no real change. The arrows and words say the same thing as the colour.
  • With comparison Off, the cards show only the big number and “No comparison”.

Numbers shorten as they grow. 1,234 shows as 1.2k, 123,456 as 123k and 1,400,000 as 1.4M. CTR shows two decimals, position one.

Good to know

  • The cards include the last few days that Google has not finished counting, so recent figures can look low. See Preliminary data.
  • Filters change the cards: they only count what matches. With a query or page filter on, the cards no longer include clicks Google does not tie to a query. See Anonymized traffic.
  • On a phone the cards sit two across.
