Global controls

Plans Free, Pro

The bar above the chart decides what every number, chart and table on the site page shows. Change one control and everything updates together. Every choice is in the page address, so a link keeps your view.

Type. Search Console reports web, image, video, news and Discover results separately. Pick one: Web, Image, Video, News or Discover. Web is the biggest and is what you see first. If Search Console has never reported a type for the site, that type is greyed out with “No data”, and opening it from a link shows “No Discover data for this site” with a button back to Web. Image, video and news come with queries and pages. Discover has pages only (Google does not report Discover search queries). Countries, devices and the page-by-query filters exist for Web only, so they are empty for the other types and the page says so.

Date range and comparison. See Date range and Comparisons.

Granularity (Auto, Day, Week, Month). This sets how the chart groups days.

  • Auto chooses for you: up to 120 days it shows days, up to about 18 months it shows weeks, and beyond that months. The button tells you what it picked, for example “Auto week”.
  • Pick Day, Week or Month to force it. Weeks start on Monday.
  • Clicks and impressions add up. CTR is worked out again from the added clicks and impressions, and position is weighted by impressions, so a busy day counts for more than a quiet one. A week or month that contains a not-yet-final day is marked preliminary. See Metrics.

Smoothing (Daily, 7-day avg). The chart can draw each day as it is, or a 7-day average, which evens out the weekend dip: each point is the average of the last 7 days (fewer at the very start of the chart). The faint daily line stays underneath. Smoothing only changes the chart, and only when it shows days. When it shows weeks or months, the control is greyed out and says so.

Site switcher (Ctrl K or Cmd K). On any page, press Ctrl K (Cmd K on Mac) or choose Search in the top bar to open a list of your sites. Type to narrow it (letters can be spread out: “rtc” finds “ridgeline-trail.co”), use the arrow keys and Enter, and Escape to close. Recent sites come first. The same list jumps to a tab of the site you are on (“Queries”, “Pages”, “Countries & devices”) and to All sites, Settings and Plan and billing. See Command palette.

Filters, brand split and groups. See Filters, Saved views, Brand split and Content groups.

Keyboard. Every control is a real button. In the range, comparison, granularity and smoothing switches, use the left and right arrow keys to move between options. The Type menu opens with Enter or Space, moves with the up and down arrows and closes with Escape. See Accessibility.

Plans. Type, granularity, smoothing and the switcher are the same on Free and Pro.
